Indian Cheesy Peas or Mutter Paneer

Mattar paneer is a vegetarian main course dish from Punjab. The dish has peas and paneer in a Onion and tomato based sauce, spiced with garam masala. With some variation in the spices it is enjoyed all over North India. It is delicious mild curry which is rich and spicy without too much heat.

Some people also add “aloo” (potato), corn, yogurt or cream.

In this two part recipe, we prepare the Onion and tomato based sauce and then we prepare the Mutter paneer masala by adding the Paneer and Peas

Onion and tomato based sauce

Ingredients

Oil

 

2 tea spoon

I use vegetable oil

1 tea spoon

 

 

  1. Heat some oil in a kadai
  2. Add the chopped onions, ginger and garlic.
  3. On medium flame, Sauté till onions turns slightly golden brown.
  4. Add chopped tomatoes and sauté till they turn soft.
  5. Add the crushed cashews, launch, black pepper, dalchini and coriander seeds
  6. After 5 minutes, in a blender, grind to a fine and smooth paste. No need to add water.

Mutter paneer masala

1 – 2 table spoon

Cumin seeds

Jeera khada

½ tea spoon

 

Cinnamon stick

Bay leaf

Red Chilli Powder

kashmiri chilli powder

Turmeric powder

¼ tea spoon

Cumin powder

¼ tea spoon

 

Sugar

 

½ – 1 tea spoon

 

Warm Spice Mix

Garam Masala powder

½ tea spoon

 

Water

 

1 cup

Around 200 to 250 grams

Slice is cubes. Around 10 to 12 pieces

  1. Heat the oil in the same kadai
  2. Add jeera, cinnamon and bay leaf.
  3. After a few seconds, add the chilli powder and turmeric
  4. Stir for around a minute.
  5. Added the blended Onion and tomato based sauce and fry for around 2 to 3 minutes
  6. Add coriander powder, cumin powder, garam masala, sugar and salt and fry.
  7. Add the water and curd
  8. Mix with a spatula
  9. Add peas and add paneer cubes.
  10. Cover with a lid and lit it simmer for around 10 minutes.
  11. Add the kasuri methi and coriander leaves.

Serve hot with rice and roti
